Dynamos Soccer Club

Dear Dynamos Soccer Club Family,

We know that there are many rumors circulating about the birthdate changes mandated by USSF, USYSA and US Club Soccer, the governing bodies that oversee youth soccer in our country. We want everyone to know that this decision was made by these governing bodies and not by any state, district or club and all member teams, clubs, leagues and state associations nation-wide will be making the changeover.

What does this mean? Beginning September 2016, age groups will be by calendar year and not by the August 1st birth date currently in effect. Players will be playing by their birth year (i.e., 2006, 2007, etc.). You can determine your son or daughter’s age group by subtracting the birth year from 2017. If you have a son/daughter born in 2005, subtract that from 2017 and your son/daughter will be playing U12.

Soccer’s governing bodies based this change on:

1.    Wanting all US youth soccer leagues and programs including ODP and the regional and national teams, to use the same age group criteria. Right now, some programs use January 1st, while others use August 1st as the start date.

2.    Hoping to eliminate some of the issues that happen at U14 and U18 where some players are in high school while others are only in 8th grade, which leaves the team with light numbers through the fall. DSC is not affected at the higher levels. As for how it will affect your sons and daughters? We anticipate fielding teams in the U8 thru U14 (U14/15) age groups, and as in the past, we may field multiple teams in the same age bracket.

Travel Team – Players will be rostered to teams in accordance to their birth year.  Bear in mind – each club and team in our league/district, state and region will be going through this transition so the net competitive impact should be minimal. We recognize that change is never easy, but we will do our best to make the transition as seamless as possible.

At the Dynamos Soccer Club, we strive to put the kids first and will do everything in our power to continue to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for all our players. This change is out of our control and we are happy to have such strong community support. Thank you.

Best wishes for a fun spring soccer season,
Dynamos Soccer Club Board
